June 2, 2019 - Annual Condition Inspection |

It's that time of year again. Time to tear the plane apart and inspect everything. This year I put on new tires and tubes. I also repacked the wheel bearings with fresh grease. Always a messy job. It's funny. I didn't even know what wheel bearings were until I built this plane. I tried out my new jack for the first time. I bought the jack to carry in the plane on my long cross-countries so I can change a tube in the field if I have a flat and have no support. I like the wide base on it; it's not going to tip over. Plus, it is relatively lightweight. |

It may not look like it but this wheel half has nice, freshly greased wheel bearings.

The axel rests on wood while I put the new tires and tubes together.
I arrived at the Skypark one morning to find that we had been invaded by Russians! Well, one Russian. Yes, it's that RV celebrity, Vlad, a man who likes to drink his vodka straight up. Vlad is famous in the RV community for flying all over the place. And I mean all over the place. He has made at least five trips to Alaska including across the Bering straight to Russia and down the Aleutian Island chain to Dutch Harbor.

After putting the RV back together, I washed it, which was sorely needed, then did a short 20 minute test flight to blow the water out. A Carnival cruise boat was heading out the Patapsco River to the Bay and eventually the Atlantic Ocean.
